Harvest Home Concert

HARVEST HOME CONCERT

Sunday, Nov 16 at 7 pm | Streamed Live at Redeemer.org & HarvestHomeConcert.org

The Harvest Home Concert is Redeemer’s musical celebration of Thanksgiving, a quintessentially American holiday that crosses all barriers. The diverse music of the concert is designed to appeal to a broad audience, including those who might not attend a church service. As a gift to the community, the concert is presented free of charge.

This 18th concert will be streamed live at Redeemer.org and HarvestHomeConcert.org and can be viewed after the concert. A dessert reception will follow the performance.

THE MUSICIANS

The musicians of The Redeemer Choir and the Carillon Ringers are joined by Alan Boda (violin), John Clanton (piano), Jerry Fields (drum), Sarah Hawbecker (organ), Tim Nichols (bass), Mindy Tanzola (flute), and vocal soloists Rainy Lindsey (from Redeemer’s Jazz Service), Kee Haspel and Barbara Richards (Redeemer Choir).

OurSong Atlanta, our guest choir, is an LGBTQIA+ choral group with a rich history and a strong commitment to promoting acceptance, diversity, and social justice through music.  Founded in 2002, OurSong inspires hope and acceptance in Atlanta and beyond.  Their repertoire spans classical, contemporary, and folk music, demonstrating significant versatility and artistic range.

Led by Dr. Robert Glor, they are a collective of individuals from various backgrounds, ages, cultural identities, sexual orientations, gender identities, and musical abilities.  This inclusivity creates an environment where people from all walks of life can come together to create beautiful music.

In addition to their regular concert schedule, OurSong participates in community events including Pride celebrations, fundraisers, and charity events.  They collaborate with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Atlanta Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Georgia State University Opera. They were selected to perform at both Georgia and National American Choral Directors’ conferences. Additionally, performing with Hugh Jackman’s choir for his Atlanta 2019 concert at State Farm Arena, appearing in a 2018 episode of Queer Eye on Netflix, and producing three commercially available recordings are amongst their proud accomplishments.

THE MUSIC

Since 2007, for themes run through every concert, viewed from a Midtown Atlanta perspective.

  • FAMILY are those closest to us, related by blood or by choice, gathered around our table or living in cherished memory.
  • FEAST can be a festive table or a simple meal received and shared with gratitude, feeding the body and the spirit; famine comes in many forms.
  • HARVEST is collaborative, dependent on our effort as well as communities, systems, and circumstances that are entirely beyond our control.
  • HOME can be a place or a person, as much destination as where we are from, where we are welcomed, known, and loved.

The first part of this year’s concert focuses on hope. Our recognition of the fragility of our lives and the systems on which we depend is balanced by our love of life, and the recognition that each new day is a fresh creation, full of possibility and opportunity.

The second half focuses on seeing other people and being seen. When we truly see each other as individuals beyond superficial judgments, we recognize and embrace our relatedness, and sit down together with chosen family at tables of gratitude.
