The Rev. Jenny McLellan serves as Redeemer’s Pastor for Congregational Care. She joined the staff in March, 2020. Her primary responsibilities include equipping member care teams, such as Stephen Ministry; engaging senior members; and welcoming and integrating new members. She has a passion for connecting our stories to God’s story and gifts for intercession, evangelism, hospitality, and administration.
Pastor Jenny is from Longmont, CO and has always been deeply involved in the life of the church, though her love for Jesus was most nourished at church camp. The love of soccer led her to play at Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS where she earned her BA in Christian Ministry in 2009 and enrolled at Luther Seminary in Saint Paul, MN the following fall.
While in seminary, Pastor Jenny met her partner, Peter McLellan, who was working toward an MA in Biblical Studies. They married in 2012 while Pastor Jenny was an intern pastor in Brainerd, MN. During internship, Pastor Jenny’s interest in pastoral care deepened through homebound visits and an exploration of faith and daily vocation, especially among the retired members.
After graduating from Luther Seminary in 2013, Pastor Jenny and Peter moved to Allendale, NJ where Pastor Jenny served a small Lutheran congregation (Calvary) for six years and Peter earned a PhD in Biblical Studies from Drew Theological School. While at Calvary, Pastor Jenny intentionally reached out to the community by holding “office hours” at Starbucks and the local Allendale Bar and Grill. She also helped start a bereavement support group, Hope and Healing, for families who lost a loved one to an addiction-related death, which was a growing need in the community.
Wanting to equip and empower the members of her church, Pastor Jenny sought training to become an ELCA coach in 2017. As a coach, she believes that people already have all the gifts and abilities to accomplish their goals and become the person God is creating them to be. Her role as a coach is to ask powerful questions to help folks see what God already sees in them. She is looking forward to applying her coaching experience in her new role at Redeemer.
Pastor Jenny and Peter moved to Georgia in 2019. She served as the stated supply pastor at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Atlanta, while Peter currently works as an educational analyst at Oxford College.
When she isn’t pastoring, Pastor Jenny loves spending time in nature with Peter and their golden doodle, Eddie, cooking and baking, crafting, playing D&D, reading, playing board games, and streaming shows. They are also eagerly anticipating the birth of their first child in May. Her family is looking forward to becoming part of the Redeemer family.
Pastor Jenny’s favorite passage of Scripture is Isaiah 41:10.
